Hi all,
I work at a small (200 bed) facility, and we recently went "live" with out new EMR program-- for now, we're doing order entry and documentation, and phyisican's orders will be next. I was wondering if anybody had good advice about training for new programs such as this. We have the "computer natives" and the "computer immigrants" and we have found this to make it difficult. Some people are not computer literate at all and did not even know how to use a mouse. So, instead of teaching them how to document, they're worried about learning how to use the basic functions of the computer. This can be frustrating because it is taking them so long to chart I/O's, vitals, etc. and I feel like it's taking away from the patient care. I'm sure this happens everywhere when something new like this is introduced, but is there a better way to go about training? I guess I should say- everybody (RNs, LPNs, secretaries, aides, etc.) got 6 hours of computer training time. Thanks for any input!
